rediffusion MK1 CU2213

Post by colourmaster » Sun Oct 18, 2015 7:16 pm

Hi Everyone
I thought i would fire up my MK1 to make sure it was still ok , well disaster has struck .
I switched it on and sound came on then just as the picture started to fill out it collapsed and just left the sound . Nothing is burning but after 30 seconds the line output valve PL509 starts to glow so the line drive must be missing .Any ideas before i start delving in ? .
Regards .
Gary .

In addition to checking the PL509 line drive, is the boost capacitor intact? I had a similar problem with a Decca 1730 (Bradford chassis) many years ago.

Check for -ve volts at pin 2 of the PL509. Diss the tripler, faulty boost cap usually overheats the PY500. Plenty of good T/B panels here if you need to try another one, Malc.

Hi everyone,

yesterday I fitted a NOS tripler kindly given to me from our resident Rediffusion expert Malc. This restored the picture which is really good , take no notice of the purity as it's standing nearly to our boiler cupboard. I think I've identified it as a 1975 BEAB approved model .

The tripler has 75 stamped on it. The crt is a Westinghouse A56-120x and has brilliant emission. I'll run it a couple of days and see what happens next.

Regards.
Gary.

I never saw a Westinghouse CRT, the emission does look good. Were the CRT's imported or were they rebadged Mullard, Mazda or something else?

Hi Frank & Marc
I'm not sure about the origin of the Westinghouse crt , maybe Malc could tell us . It must be one of the last as its got alot of modifications to it to bring it up to BEAB standard. They are a very well designed chassis and very sturdily built.
Have you had any luck with yours Marc ?.
Regards.

Hi Gary,

Mine has been put on hold pending the arrival of a Peak transistor tester courtesy of our own Cathovisor plus I'm stuck with a very dark picture and not sure where to go with it yet. It should be back on the bench shortly.... I hope.

Hi Catho,

Thanks for the offer but It can wait for the moment, it's probably safer coming in the Panza than Royal Mail ! :cch

Looks smashing mate. I remember the 26" Doric branded ones too.
