Ferguson 3796 (TX10)

Post by Mikey66 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 9:47 am

I collected this set yesterday from the other side of Manchester. I bid £10 for it and won it for a fiver. I had convinced my self it was a 22" set from the sellers description. When I clapped eyes on it, in the second floor flat where it had lived, my heart (and arms) sank, it was the 26" flavour.

Much huffing and puffing later it was back at mine. Plugged it straight in and it worked!

Looking inside I noticed the original tube label had been removed.

There was a TCE label attached to the bottom f the CRT.

My question is, why would Thorn remove the original CRT label? It hasn't fallen off inside the TV it looks more like some one has deliberately tried to remove it

It does look like it was a rectangular Mullard label. Is it a 30AX CRT, if so it will be Mullard, I did not think Thorn produced any inline CRT's. That was one of the problems with the Skelmersdale plant, they produced, using RCA technology Delta CRT's and money was not available to retool the factory for inline.
That is how I understand one of the problems the factory had.

After the introduction of the TX10 series in the summer of 1980 in due course Thorn consumer Electronics became Mullard's biggest UK customer for the 30AX CRTs.
I took delivery of my first TX10 set in June 1980, a Ferguson 3765.
