Mullard Tubes

Post by davyrocket2 » Sun Feb 01, 2015 6:49 pm

I would like to know is it possible to replace ,A66/ 120AX ,with ,A66/510AX .I realise that the A66/120 ,is a delta gun version ,is the A66/510,a PIL ,type .I am aware that both types have to be converged ,but do not have any more details or any pin outs .I tried to google for this information but may have done it wrong any advice ,ideas welcome thanks David.

I how don't think so.
the PIL tube needs to be used with is own scan coils .I don't know how you would disable the convergence circuit for the delta gun tube.

I have done some more checks and it seems ,A66/140X ,can be used as a replacement for A66/120X,is this correct ? . Does anybody remember a firm in staffordshire. Express Tubes ,and the Rugley area rings a bell . My copies of television are packed away .My last question is the A66/ 510AX , I have is a ,High /Bri /version .Did Mullard make ,High /Bri ,version of all ,tubes or just some ,reguards David

Isn't the A66-140X 110 degree and the A66-120X 90 degree? You'd surely need to deal with scanning drive and pincushion correction for that? I've seen it done in monochrome sets, but with mods...

Indeed they do have different deflection angles (see below).

Also I've moved this thread, its more a technical query and suited to the workshop section, than the suppliers section where it was previously located.
