Cap Voltage Query

I've been tidying my cap stock today and came across these little electrolytics. I've no idea where they came from, the look like modern tants. The value is 156 ( 15uF) and this is confirmed on my LCR meter. What I'm unsure about is the voltage, they state 16K. Now my mind is telling me that's 1600V but I'm just looking for confirmation that I must be wrong. Anyone care to comment.

They're tantalum beads. 16V at a guess - the K probably denotes something else, like tolerance.

Hi Chris, yes 16VW would also be my guess, it is a common voltage level for Tants.
K is the +/- 10% tolerance band.

ISTR tants normally came in 6.3,10,16 and 35V ratings. With each increase in voltage rating the diameter of the bead increased. This dimension did not change much from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you can find an old datasheet you should be able to confirm the rating.

They look like the 15uF 16V Tantalum capacitors I gave you in a component lucky a few years ago.

Hi Stan,

I think you're spot on, as you say that was a good few years ago too, you have a good memory. At the time I was into restoring point-to-point 405 sets and these were a tad too modern so I stuffed them in a box. Now they are perfect for the sets I work on hence being put into current stock draws.

What had me pondering the voltage was the K after the 16. I expected the to see it after the 156 i.e 156k 16.
