Pye BB/FM details

Post by Ed Dinning » Sun May 29, 2016 8:10 pm

Hi Gents, I'm looking for a schematic or any other details of this switched FM tuner.
It was designed to bolt under the Chinoiserie version of the BB as a plinth and had its own power supply; interconnections went up through the base of the BB and connected to the amp.
It has about 8 valves and is crystal controlled; stations being selected by a 3 position switch.

This is a set from the 50's, when FM was 100MHz and below, but it has crystals of (approx.) 111, 113, 117 Mhz for the 3 programmes. Surely this would give a strange IF?

Thanks, Ed

Hi Ed,

in the early days of FM there were a few non-standard IFs: some German SABA sets I know have a 6.75MHz IF, whilst a few early Bush sets were 19.5MHz (from memory, the VHF41 was one such set) - allowing the use of pre-existing TV IF transformers. I'm wondering if the BB/FM is one such machine.

Hi Catho, it could be about 19MHz based on the frequencies then in use and the values on the crystals I have. It would just be nice to get the schematic.

Ed
