Anson Engine Museum, near Stockport

I've just returned from the above as I've been to collect a couple of eBay items from there, and was very kindly given a whistle-stop tour of the Museum as it features engines from two manufacturers once local to me: Blackstone's and Peter Brotherhood.

The museum is primarily devoted to internal combustion engines, but an increasing number of steam engines are featured. The museum is growing and developing, offering facilities to universities as well.

I was able to visit an old "friend" in the shape of the sectioned Napier "Deltic" engine, that used to be on display at the National Railway Museum.

The museum is not open at the moment, but is well worth a visit and a warm and friendly reception is guaranteed: it is set in wonderful scenery and I can recommend the minced beef pie at the Boar's Head up the road :qq1

Also home to one of the magnificent Ruston and Hornsby 6VKR engines from the Ealing Studios, I last saw these running in about 1990. Not long afterwards, the BBC (the then owner) scrapped them and cleared the area for use as a store (where would the old BBC have been without more and more "stores"? :aab ). I was gratified to hear that at least one of these splendid monsters and tributes to British heavy engineering prowess had been preserved.

I've mentioned this topic elsewhere here and on UKVRRR, but think it's worth highlighting as another reason to drop in.
