120 and 180 line experiments

Post by Panrock » Fri Jul 25, 2014 9:58 am

Some here might find this thread in the NBTV 'electronic television' forum interesting. It concerns my quest to adapt my PT Argus to display lower definition television standards...

Hi Trevor,

You don't have a copy of the November 1953 issue of Practical Television to refer to, do you by any chance? I've long lost mine. I need that "revised" sync separator circuitry in my second schematic (current.gif) to be checked against it...

Cheers,

Steve

I have a copy, do you know which article ? "An Inexpensive Receiver", P253 perhaps ? (Attached)

Or there is a beginners timebase pt 3 for electrostatic tubes but that is just a wiring diagram, no schematic

Hi Jon,

Many thanks for chipping in.

I think it was an article called something like "Improvements to the Argus" or somesuch...

But I'll certainly now check this too.

Hi Steve,

I can't find any mention of the Argus in the Nov 53 issue (or Dec or Oct for that matter), Practical Television seemed to have moved on to their new wizzo PT "Supervisor".

Thanks Jon. I now reckon yours is the circuit I've been looking for... the similarities with mine are too great. Only some of the component values differ - probably due to me monkeying around to 'improve' it over the years...

Hi Trevor,

Yes the circuit Jon gave me is definitely the right one. I've now added it (with due credit) to the Argus page.

Progress is being made over on the other board. The flyback line problem is no more. The main problem is that the 24Hz frame rate of some of the lower definition standards throws picture hum into sharp relief. We're now looking into that.

BTW if anyone has got a known bright, without plate shadows, VCR97, VCR517 or CV2810 - I'm interested!

Steve
