Magazine texts

Post by Alistair D » Thu Sep 11, 2014 12:03 am

Reading a recent thread over on UKVRRR about direction finding radios reminded me of a series of articles from Practical Wireless back in 1968 for the PW Clubman Project. One version of which was for direction finding. An Internet search for PW 1968 took me to this very interesting site.

It may be of interest for researching old magazine articles.

I found this archive of Practical Wireless and Practical Television:

Looking through some of the old PWs I was delighted to find an actual photo of Commander Henry Hatfield (Sevenoaks) AND his Spectrohelioscope, very satisfying to find that the 'scope was as Heath Robinsonish in appearance as I always imagined it.

For those who don't know, among the monthly radio propagation reports carried in PWs of yore was a section headed "Solar" which almost invariably included details of the previous month's sunspots and other solar features courtesy of the good Commander and his Device.
I always wondered how many people a) read it and b) understood it.

Thanks for the reminder Niall Image I was already familiar with the site but many new issues of Practical Television have been added to it since I last visited there:

Just a heads-up that the Wireless World archive has recently been updated and now includes all 13 issues featuring construction of the Wireless World colour receiver, June 1968 - June 1969 (inclusive).
