Thanks for that Till, what made me think of it was seeing a GY501 in the B&O 3400 that was on ebay just recently.
I could see none of the substantial black screening around it, or any of the warnings, eg. on a G6 or such like.

Was there not a possibility of X Ray's from the CRT, seem to remember the shadow mask blocked most radiation but I seem to remember warnings to not run tbe CRT was final anode above 25kv. I was also under the impression that the GY501 in the CTV final anode circuit could be a source of X Ray's.

I remember those warnings! - something along the lines of;

WARNING
Operating this CRT with a final anode EHT in excess of XX kV can cause forward emission of X-RAY radiation - Refer to set manufacturers service data.
