Lonnie Donegan in a tv showroom

Post by The_Teleman » Wed Jun 01, 2016 10:46 pm

This is a tv showroom with the skiffle star Lonnie Donegan .
Some nice Bush sets & I think I spotted a McMichael set on the shelf

Ooh, and I do believe I spy a Bush TV75 squeezed in between what look like an EKCO, and a Ferranti (or could that be your McMichael?) - all upon the shelf, top right.

Is the front set a real one? looks like a mock-up or someone's nicked the tube lol

That's just what I thought too. I wondered if the photo might be good for a caption competition.

Another thought about the photo was that it looked to have a line linearity fault.

Both the TV and Lonnie Donegan could be cardboard cutouts....

...at one point Hughie green was used to endorse Bush TVs (like Sid James was with Murphy): I had correspondence with a family member of Green's who as a child, was actually photographed with a real Bush Baby as part of the promo!

I would never have recognised that photo as Lonnie. This the image I remember.

If you make the two heads a similar size and stretch the original sideways to correct for the offset angle of the cardboard version, there are marked similarities.

Look in particular at the chin and hair line.

I think they agree ...

Ah I see now, away from home and using the phone, it cut off the right hand side of the photo with Lonnie in it. I was looking at the chap on the left.
I will try harder in future :ccb

Probably just me, but I don't like the look of the salesman on the left..... I wouldn't buy a set from him, maybe it's the fake Lonnie Donegan or the dodgy looking set he is leaning on that is not helping :bba

I can probably explained most of the questions on this post
Firstly I've been told the photo was taken off a tv screen , don't know when though .but that could explain the poor linearity.
Secondly the bush tv at the front has had the screen blanked out as later on in the shot it has an ATV logo superimposed on it .
Thirdly the guy on the left , well I thought he looked more like a dodgy used car sales man.

Funny you should say that, I was disposed to thinking he was a bit of a ringer for a WW2 "spiv" - Joe Walker (Dad's Army) comes to mind. :aa
