I'm just back from visiting some of the Normandy beaches and German WWII defences.
The remains of the Mulberry harbour are very impressive but on the other side the remains of the German Wurzburg radar are pretty interesting too. We visited many of the museums covering the D Day landings and "Atlantic Wall" and I can highly recommend them if you haven't already been. The whole scene makes it very clear what an gigantic expense war involves both in lives and materials.
I guess the general patriotic wisdom on radar is rather similar to that of television in that it was a British invention although this is less likely in our circles. Here's quite a balanced view even if the author tends to confuse the words British and English at times.
