I have never been too keen on crystal sets, but decided to throw one together yesterday, as an excuse to use a set of 170 brand new HSS drills, obtained on a car boot sale. All self-contained on the frame of an old twin-gang variable capacitor. The germanium diode is inside an old glass fuse, mounted in a standard holder. Works OK, usual low volume, and even gets a German station after dark!
